Working with a freelancer can be difficult at first, I get that. You need to find an individual who’s values align with your own, who understands your business, but most importantly an individual who you trust and enjoy working with. I wanted to take this opportunity to tell you a bit more about me and my journey, that has brought me to JM Communications.
Where it started…
My PR ambitions actually date back to my school days when I first started digging around for media experience. In the absence of a school newspaper, I had to find another route. So I spent my time building contacts as a freelance press photographer. Most people spent their sixth form years preparing for university, whilst I was on trains travelling around the UK photographing the Queen and senior members of the Royal Family… Random one, I know, but gives me some good dinner party stories. With pictures published by Daily Mail, The Times and Hello it was fun and allowed me to see the world I’d dreamt of being part of for so long! But photography still just didn’t give me what I wanted.
Then it got interesting…
After a brief stint at university and deciding that it wasn’t for me, I was fortunate to begin working at North West-based jeweller, David M Robinson. Under the most incredible Head of Marketing, I had the opportunity to get stuck into real world retail marketing and communications. I finally had that PR role I’d wanted and was doing it alongside beautiful product and amazing brands. What’s not to love! I was trusted to eventually take on the role of Head of Communications and will always be grateful to the brand for that trust and my colleagues for their support.
During my time at DMR, in addition to overseeing all brand content, for campaign and social media, I was privileged to work on all media strategy, including press relations and product placement. The latter proved hugely successful for the business, regularly securing red carpet and TV spots with some of the biggest names in showbusiness, including Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson, Amanda Holden and Tess Daly.
And now here we are!
After moving on from DMR and then some subsequent roles, I had an urge to take the leap and go solo, an utterly terrifying prospect but one that so far I’m enjoying.
With experience across the board, from PR campaigns to strategic marketing, art direction and content creation as well as editorial copywriting, I’m confident that there is so much that can be gained from working with a freelancer like me.
